Adversity, if at first you don’t succeed

Put your temper to more use

‘Cause bein’ broke’s a poor excuse

That should only give you more fuel

Show ’em why you’re you

– Eminem, Believe –

A short tribute to Eminem, the unsung hero of my life, and of many other lives who refuse to let the world defeat them.

Without an official announcement, Eminem (the Eminem) dropped a new album. And the album “climbed the Billboard chart to the top”* as quick as he releases it.

Of course. After all, it’s Eminem.

I wouldn’t call myself a fanatic of Eminem’s music. With my fickle and impulsive personality, I easily fall in love with every person, every artist, and every song. And to Hell with it all, there is a high chance I will marry my cat and live the rest of my life with her.

Nevertheless, Eminem has always been, and forever will be, a special person in my life and my Spotify playlist.

I knew Eminem’s name in 2009, when Em is still a hot shot. Lyrical genius, cutting word plays, and of course, lightning speed, are what makes him stand out.

But I didn’t love him for those aspects. I should have, if I want to be a knowledgeable voice in critiquing rap and Hip Hop.

Don’t hope for too much of this tribute, because it will never be what you want it to be.

I didn’t quite love Slim Shady until I have grown a little bit older. I am now at the age of not giving a fuck anymore. And thus, the controversies surrounding Slim Shady are, to me, nothing more than a simple word.

So, in my own, un-fanatic, way, I fell in love with the Eminem on the sleepless night when I was refused by 3 universities and without a place to go in a foreign country. I remember curling up on the floor, with a blanket on top, and Eminem’s songs were blasting in my ears.

That’s why we sing for these kids that don’t have a thing

Except for a dream and a fuckin’ rap magazine

Who post pinup pictures on their walls all day long

Idolize they favorite rappers and know all they songs

Or for anyone who’s ever been through shit in they lives

‘Til they sit and they cry at night, wishing they die

From that cold, brutal winter night, Eminem has gained himself a Stan. The Stan that keeps his playlist rotating on her phone every single night through the darkness that blooms inside her. The Stan that would idolize every single one of his albums. His songs. His features. His sarcastic demeanor and the awkward interview with Jimmy Kimmel (or was it Jimmy Fallon?)

And this is my answer to Eminem’s “Believe:” I have never stopped believing you. In fact, I have grown to love your music more as I step on the unfathomable water. And as I drown in my own sorrow, your lyrics is what keep me standing firm on the ground.

So Em, how could I ever stop believing in you?

Your a supernova, and I’m aI’m a space bound rocket ship and your heart’s the moon
And I’m aiming right at you
Right at you
Two hundred fifty thousand miles on a clear night in June
And I’m aiming right at you
Right at you
Right at you

So there it is. A short tribute where there are no reviews, no ratings, no comments on Eminem’s latest no. 1 Billboard album, “Music To Be Murdered By.” I already told you that it will not be whatever you want it to be.

But like the Eminem in “Space Bound,” Em is the moon who lives 250,000 miles away. On some nights, the moon disappears, but you know in your heart, it is always there. You just have to aim at it, and never stop believing.

Do I mind the controversies surrounding Em? Yes, yes, I do. But do I care for it enough to stop myself from loving him and thanking him for saving my life as I lie awake at night, wishing I had died that day instead?

No, I don’t. And I’ll never do.
